Lebanon Valley 6, Messiah 3

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley won for the ninth time in 10 outings, passing a tough Commonwealth Conference test at Messiah with a 6-3 victory.

The Dutchmen (13-5, 3-1 CC) are a win away from clinching a return to the conference playoffs, with matches left against Lycoming and Albright.

Strong doubles play keyed the victory over Messiah, led by Ethan Grodzinski and Roger Van Scyoc's 8-2 win at No. 1. Joel Ramos and Ryan Weitzel won 8-5 at No. 2, and Sam Calabria and Kyle Kahl won their seventh straight at No. 3, 8-6.

Messiah fought back in singles, winning flights 3-5, but the Dutchmen responded with quick wins at the top and bottom of the ladder to clinch the match. Grodzinski beat Michael Brookhart 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, and van Scyoc won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Calabria capped it with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Chris Brittingham at No. 6.

The Falcons (4-5, 2-2 CC) won at No. 3 with David Wichert rallying to beat Weitzel 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-4, Peter Shuck winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 over Andrew Wilson, and Zachary Brunner topping Joel Ramos in three, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 5.
