ANNVILLE, Pa. - The fifth annual Pink Game was a huge success for the Lebanon Valley College women's basketball team, but in the larger picture, it was a huge success for cancer treatment in Central Pennsylvania.

The Dutchmen topped Elizabethtown College, 65-51, in front of their largest crowd of the season with 1,465 people in attendance. Around the concourse and during pregame and halftime ceremonies, the team raised money for cancer research and treatment.

“It was great seeing the excitement and enthusiasm at the fifth annual Pink Game,” said Rick Beard, LVC's director of athletics. “This has become a hallmark event at Lebanon Valley College, and we appreciate everyone's participation and support in making this event so special.”

“Our Pink Game was a great night for our basketball program and the community,” head coach Todd Goclowski said. “The fan support was terrific and the battle against Elizabethtown College was an exciting one.  The presence of the school band and our community in the stands creating a sea of pink in the arena made it an incredible atmosphere in which to compete.”

Admission to the game was free, but many fans dropped free-will donations into a collection box at the entrance to the LVC Gymnasium. They also made purchases at the team's bake sale table, bid on game-worn pink basketball jerseys, and bought raffle tickets for other prizes.

The showcase prize of the night was the chance at a half-court shot to win a three-year lease on a 2012 Chevy Volt, made possible by Frederick Chevrolet in Lebanon. LVC's own Andrew Moser '05 was drawn during the first half to take the shot but couldn't connect with the basket, much to the crowd's dismay.

Others won more concrete prizes donated to this year's raffle by area businesses. Prizes included a $300 gift certificate to the College Store, a three-month membership to the LVC Arnold Sports Center, one hour of bowling at Palmyra Bowling, and gift cards and certificates from Hobby Lobby, Weis, Giant, Kettering Corner, Pete's Pizza, Hearth Family Restaurant, Quentin Tavern (3), J&S Pizza, Parma Pizza, Mancino's Pizza, Wertz Candies, The Batdorf, and Palmyra Dairy Queen.

As it has in years past, a portion of the money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society of Lebanon. This year, the team is also donating a portion to the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute.

Both organizations had representatives on hand to accept ceremonial checks for $4,000 each prior to the game from donor Jeanne Arnold and Goclowski.

“I would like to thank Jeannie Arnold and our partners at both the Penn State Hershey Cancer Clinic and the American Cancer Society,” Goclowski said. “Together, we are making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

“This is our team's favorite game of the year and a way in which we can promote educational awareness against the disease in a positive and inclusive way for our fans and friends throughout our community.  Our fans are a big part of our success and it is exciting to see that partnership flourish for such an important and inspiring cause.”

On the floor, Tierney Hiltz led the team with 18 points to improve to 11.6 points per game on the season. Three other LVC players joined her in double-digit scoring: Chaklos (12), Bach (11), and Fritz (10).

Defensively, Bach led with eight rebounds, and Fritz tied a Pink Game record with three blocks.

With the win, the team remains undefeated in conference play. They clinched a spot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs at Messiah last week and can clinch home-court advantage with a win Saturday afternoon against Albright.
