ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley clinched a playoff spot with an emphatic 9-0 win over Alvernia University on Senior Day Thursday, sweeping the Crusaders to earn the Commonwealth Conference's third seed.
The Dutchmen (10-8, 4-2 CC) will likely play at Lycoming on Tuesday in the semifinals, at a time to be determined. Pairings will be solidified and announced on Monday following the conclusion of all conference matches.
LVC breezed through doubles, dropping just two points, and then had little trouble through the singles line-up with five matches taken in straight sets.
Ethan Grodzinski led LVC with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Jed Spangler, and
Brad Sweigart, playing up at No. 2 for just the second time this season, dug out a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Nathan Bauer in a tiebreaker.
Tom Neckelmann beat William Gerber at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0 and
Ryan Weitzel topped Zachary Marsar 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
Joel Ramos won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1, against Ryan Ludwig, and
Andrew Wilson defeated Nick Fortna 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
