Lebanon Valley 5, Arcadia 4
GLENSIDE, Pa. - Four wins in singles sparked a comeback as Lebanon Valley eked out an important 5-4 win at Arcadia on Sunday, keeping the Dutchmen on solid footing in the playoff race with one more Commonwealth Conference match remaining.
The Dutchmen (9-8, 3-2 CC) fell behind 2-1 after doubles, but straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4, and 6 singles got them by the Knights (3-7, 0-4 CC). The match ends a brutal stretch for LVC that saw them play four away CC matches in five days; LVC went 3-1 in that span. At 3-2, LVC is a half-match behind Lycoming for third place, with the top four teams making the playoffs.
Ethan Grodzinski keyed the victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Bart Blankenship, and
Brad Sweigart also won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 over Eric Elie.
Ryan Weitzel picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Max Ameil, and
Joel Ramos beat Herminio Quinones 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Tom Neckelmann and
Andrew Wilson dropped tough matches at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively, but LVC already had the match in hand. Necklemann lost 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 to Kevin Langner, and Wilson fell 4-6, 6-4, (14-12) to Marc Ruggia.
Necklemann/Sweigart took LVC's long doubles point, winning 8-2 over Elie and Quinones at No. 2.
