ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team came back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to start its season with a win, beating Misericordia University 6-3 on Friday.
The Dutchmen (1-0) were led by a comeback win at No. 1 by
Ethan Grodzinski, who rallied from a set down to defeat Fred Hockenbury 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
LVC picked up four other wins in singles, with
Tom Neckelmann topping Frank Nutt 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and
Joel Ramos beating Justin Muthler 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6. A pair of freshmen won their collegiate debuts, as well, with
Ryan Weitzel defeating Sal Saraniti 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and
Andrew Wilson getting past Nate Powers 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5.
MU's only singles win came at No. 4 as Brett Ford beat
Kyle Kahl 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Misericordia (0-1) took a 2-1 lead with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Grodzinski and Weitzel won 8-4 over Hockenbury and Nutt at No. 1 for LVC's point. Saraniti and Ford needed a tiebreak to beat Neckelmann and Kahl at No. 2, 9-8 (7-4), and Powers and Muthler won at No. 3 over Ramos and Wilson, 8-6.
LVC returns to action against Susquehanna on Sept. 25 at home.
