LANDISVILLE, Pa. - Third-seeded Lebanon Valley staged a dramatic comeback to upset top seed Elizabethtown, 5-4, and win the Commonwealth Conference championship Sunday.

The Dutchmen (11-7) won the CC title for the sixth time overall, but this one is sweeter as it comes with the program's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team will find out its next step when NCAA selections are announced May 4.

LVC had lost 6-3 to Elizabethtown back on April 8, and managed to swing two points around at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to change the result in the final.

Tournament MVP Andrew Levin secured an important tiebreak win at No. 6 to ensure the match would go to 4-4, and Jon Gingrich closed out the championship with an emphatic win at No. 5. Brad Sweigart picked up LVC's other singles win at No. 4 as E-town's top three dominated their matches.

LVC started out on top, 2-1, after doubles, with Nos. 2 and 3 grabbing extra-point victories. Sweigart and Tom Neckelmann needed a tiebreak to beat Brian Osborne and Jeff Kirkhoff, 9-8 (7-5) at No. 3, and Matt Grodzinski and Levin picked up a 9-7 win at No. 2 over Brok Walker and Jon Van den Ende.

Meanwhile, Elizabethtown picked up its first point at No. 1 as Manrique Arrea and Bryan Metz cruised, 8-2, over Gingrich and Jared Zeigler.

The momentum shifted in the Blue Jays' favor as singles began, with E-town grabbing a 3-2 lead after Walker beat Zeigler, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 and Kirkhoff beat Neckelmann 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Sweigart then won over Metz 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 to tie the match, but Arrea took a hard-fought battle at No. 1 over Grodzinski, 7-5, 6-4.

That left just Nos. 5 and 6, and with the sun setting on an unseasonably hot day, Levin was taken to a second-set tiebreaker by Osborne, but emerged with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win to virtually assure victory, as Gingrich was already up 4-1 in his second with a set in hand at the time.

Gingrich then coolly finished out the match over Van den Ende with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
