M. Tennis Upsets Messiah, Moves Into CC Final

Full Results

LANDISVILLE, Pa. - Third-seeded LVC pulled off the upset and beat second seed Messiah, 5-2, to advance to the Commonwealth Conference Men's Tennis Championship match for the second straight season.

The Dutchmen (10-7) bounced back from a 5-4 loss to the Falcons (8-8) just 10 days ago, moving into Sunday's final against top-seeded Elizabethtown, which blanked Arcadia 5-0. LVC lost in last year's final, 5-0, to Messiah.

LVC managed to turn around some results from the regular-season match to grab a 2-1 lead after doubles before they picked up three wins in singles to end the first-to-five match.

Matt Grodzinski and Andrew Levin avenged their regular-season loss to Luke Ruch and Mile Elliott with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and Tom Neckelmann and Brad Sweigart beat Andrew Wismer and Adam Sheir, 8-1, at No. 3. Messiah's Jansen Hein and Samuel Shorts topped Jon Gingrich and Jared Zeigler, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Messiah picked up a point when Shorts beat Zeigler 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, but the Dutchmen won at the bottom three rungs to win.

Sweigart started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Elliott at No. 4, and Levin beat Adam Sheir 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6. Gingrich then topped Wismer at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2, after the two had battled to three sets in their regular-season meeting.
