SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team debuted with a win Sunday, taking its season opener, 6-3, over Susquehanna.
The Dutchmen (1-0) trailed 2-1 after doubles but came back to win five of six singles matches to beat the Crusaders (0-1).
SU picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to go up 2-1, but LVC got four straight-set wins in singles.
Matt Grodzinski beat Richard Fitzsimmons, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1, and
Tom Neckelmann topped Mats Haaland, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2.
Jon Gingrich won at No. 4 over William Mellor, 6-0, 6-4, and
Andrew Deckert won his career debut at No. 5 over Grant Uber, 7-6, 6-4.
Brad Sweigart won in a tiebreak at No. 6, 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 against Alec Green, while
Ethan Grodzinski was on the wrong end of his own three-setter, falling to Michael Hockey 6-0, 5-7, 6-4.
LVC will play one other fall match, a make-up date at Juniata on Tuesday afternoon.
