Men's Tennis Edges King's In 5-4 Marathon

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.
- Lebanon Valley College walked away with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over King's College Tuesday in their regular-season finale at Kirby Park.

The Dutchmen end the season at 13-8 overall. They were playing their final tune-up before heading back to King's this weekend for the Commonwealth Conference Individual Championships.

The Monarchs (12-11) suffered a tough loss when number-one player Nick Hojsack suffered an ankle injury in warm-ups, forcing King's to move every player up a flight in the line-up. As it turned out, the two teams would get into a battle, with LVC winning two of three doubles matches, and the two sides splitting singles. Four of the six singles matches went to three sets.

Matt Grodzinski gutted out a marathon win at No. 1 over Jon Hand, winning 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), but Brad Sweigart wasn't as lucky in his super tiebreak at No. 3, losing David Kaluzavich, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

Blake Bonser beat Jared Zeigler at No. 2, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, and Joe Guza won at No. 6 over Andrew Levin, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, but Jon Gingrich won a three-setter over David Boe, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4 and Matt Hotchkiss won easily at No. 5, 6-3, 6-3, over Povl Schmidt to secure the win.
