Lebanon Valley 6, Lehigh 3
HERSHEY, Pa. – Despite trailing through the first two periods, #21 Lebanon Valley was able to reverse fortunes and force a 6-3 win against Lehigh Saturday at Hersheypark Arena.
The Dutchmen (18-3, 9-2 ECHA) were led by
Andy Thurby and
Jimmy McNally. Thurby scored twice and recorded a pair of assists. McNally scored two more.
McNally scored first for LVC. Down 1-0 early on, McNally converted on a pass from Thurby 14:17 in to tie the game. Lehigh retaliated with back-to-back goals from Tyler Lewis and Kevin Melone to take a 3-1 lead moments later.
Thurby netted his first goal off a pass from
Cole Bell with a minute to play in the first period to bring the game within a goal. He scored his second, unassisted, 10:43 into the second period for a tie.
Klayton Garman broke a relatively quiet stretch of the game with a goal 2:53 into the third period. Garman received a pass from
John Hagy from behind the net and flicked in the game winner from close range.
McNally and
Benjamin Hoerner gave the team insurance with goals in the final two minutes. McNally scored a power play goal off an assist from Thurby with 1:58 to play. Hoerner followed with an unassisted goal inside the final minute.
Colin Catherman made the start for LVC but was pulled in favor of
Matt Healy after allowing all three Lehigh goals in the first period.
LVC hosts the Dutchmen Outdoor Classic Tuesday night at Hersheypark Stadium.
