NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball and men's outdoor track and field teams garnered recognition on Tuesday, April 14, as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) office announced in a release that a student-athlete from each program was honored for their production during the past week of competition.
Senior shortstop and pitcher
Owen Berry was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Week after playing an important role in three victories for Dutchmen Baseball. Sophomore
Wyatt Leitzel was also presented with the MAC Track Athlete of the Week award, following his strong performance for LVC's men's outdoor track and field team at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
Berry led Lebanon Valley's baseball team to a 3-2 record, batting .500 with nine hits, 10 runs scored, and six stolen bases. He also contributed on the mound, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of relief in the 13-2 victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday, April 11. Berry made an impact at the plate during the win as well, recording two hits, two walks, an RBI, and three runs scored. Earlier in the day, the senior tallied two hits with a home run while knocking in two runs during the first game of the doubleheader. This marks the first time Berry has been selected as the MAC Freedom Player of the Week during his career. Lebanon Valley has now received three conference weekly honors so far this season, as sophomore pitcher
Landon Sexton was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week while sophomore catcher and outfielder
Kody Phillips was named the Player of the Week on Tuesday, March 17.
Leitzel set a career-best time of 9:20.47 in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the Dutchmen at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday. His time currently ranks first in the MAC and 20th overall in Division III. This marks Leitzel's first career MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for Lebanon Valley. Additionally, LVC's men's outdoor track and field team has been presented with three conference weekly awards so far this spring. A member of the program has earned an honor from the MAC in three consecutive weeks, as graduate students
Aonghas Evanick and
Michael De Falcis were the first two student-athletes to be listed as the MAC Field Athlete of the Week during the outdoor campaign.
