FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team was in action over the weekend as a few members of the team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Mary Washington.
Sarah McComas and
Catherine Stone were in the Championships Singles bracket, while
Erika Badner and
Megan Martin played in the B2 bracket. McComas had a tough opening match as she faced ninth-seeded Kylie Schaefer from Christopher Newport University. The junior put up a great battle, falling 8-5. Stone dropped an 8-0 decision to Gettysburg College's No. 1 singles player Gabby Mazzeo. In the consolation round, McComas dropped an 8-1 decision to Jolie Zink of Haverford College while Stone fell 8-5 to Catholic University's Shloka Tambat. Badner dropped her singles match of the B2 bracket by a score of 8-0 to Naomi Feltman of host Mary Washington. Martin also fell in her match by a score of 8-3 to Goucher College's Meline Siggen.
The Dutchmen had a pair of doubles teams competing at the Championships, with McComas and Stone playing in the Championship bracket and Badner teaming up with
Nikki Denbowski in the B1 bracket. McComas and Stone dropped a 6-1 decision in their opening round match to Carnegie Mellon University. They battled back in the consolation, winning a close 8-7 (7-5) match against Mary Washington. They then advanced to the quarterfinals against Stevens Institute of Technology due to a retirement. In the quarterfinals, their run came to an end with an 8-3 defeat to Haverford College. Badner and Denbowski dropped their opening match 6-1 to Lynchburg College. They won two consolation matches on Sunday, first advancing over Stevens due to a retirement. They then defeated Bridgewater 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. They were scheduled to play Saint Mary's College of Maryland in the semifinals, but that match did not happen.
LVC will return to dual match action on Wednesday as the team makes the trip to Gettysburg College for a 4 p.m. start against the Bullets.
