ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team won the first match of the season with a thrilling 4-3 victory over visiting Southern Virginia University on Saturday at the Shankroff Tennis Center in Annville.
The Dutchmen won the doubles point with victories at courts one and three. The Knights won the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead before
Catherine Stone evened things up at the top flight. The teams split the next two singles matches, leaving the winner of the match up to number six singles. LVC received a strong performance by
Victoria Latek in her collegiate debut to win the flight and take the match from the Knights.
Inside the Box
- Stone earned a pair of wins on the day as she teamed with Katie Berra for a 6-2 victory at number one doubles to clinch the doubles point, and then earned an exciting 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) victory at number one singles.
- Latek was also a two-time winner in the match as she earned a 6-2 victory at number three doubles with Nikki Denbowski, and then won the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at number six singles.
- Elizabeth Kraychick won her first collegiate match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five singles.
- Berra dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) decision at number two singles.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host the Dutchmen Invitational at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey. The co-ed team competition will consist of exhibition matches with Gettysburg University, Stevenson University, and Wilkes University.
