The award is voted on by the individual institutions' coaches and is presented to a male and female athletic program in the MAC Commonwealth and MAC Freedom.

The Dutchmen swept the men's and women's awards for the second consecutive year as members of the MAC Freedom. It is the third time LVC has won the men's and women's awards in the same year. The first time the Dutchmen were honored with both awards was after the 2009-10 season when both the men and women earned the honor in the MAC Commonwealth. It is the fifth time the Dutchmen have won the men's award and the fifth time for the women. Prior to last year, the men won the award in three consecutive years from 2008-2010 while the first two women's awards were received in 2003 and 2004.
