NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Sam Rothstein and
Anna Sawicki broke school records to highlight a great day by the Lebanon Valley Indoor Track and Field teams at the Scarlet Knight Open hosted by Rutgers University at the world-famous New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City.
The Dutchmen faced mostly Division I competition at the meet and had almost everyone competing record a season or career best performance.
Track Events
Colin Winters was just off his school record time from last week in the 60 meters as he ran 6.94 seconds in the final to finish fifth. He qualified for the final with the ninth-fastest time in preliminaries at 7.03 seconds and was third in his heat.
Darrian Berkheimer had a season best time of 27.14 seconds in the 200 meters finishing third in her heat.
Owen Linder won his heat and finished fifth overall out of 68 sprinters in the men's 200 meters with a career best time of 22.12 seconds. His time is third in the program record books.
Matt Bruchak was fourth in the same heat as Linder with a season best time of 23.76 seconds.
Donovan Goundie ran a season best time of 23.42 seconds to finish second in his heat.
The Dutchmen has three MAC qualifiers in the 800 meters led by
Rory Lieberman who finished third in his heat with a time of 1:59.50.
Lukas Walko ran a career best 1:59.65 to finish fifth in his heat while
Eric Shelton was second in his heat with a qualifying time of 2:02.55 in his first career 800.
Andrew Namatka ran 2:04.57 in the first 800 of his career.
Sam Rothstein broke the program record in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:29.98 to finished seventh out of 14 in the field. His career best time beat the previous record of 2:31.11 by Andrew Goelz in 2015.
Sierra Kapcsos ran a career best time of 3:09.12 in the women's race. Her time moved her up to third on the program top 10 list.
Lieberman finished second overall out of 43 runners in the mile with a career best time of 4:14.14. His time qualified him for the AARTFC Championships in the event and is third on LVC's top 10 list. Shelton was fifth in his heat and 15th overall with a career best time of 4:23.77. His time is eighth in the program record books. Walko was a MAC qualifier in the event with a career best time of 4:25.32. His time is 10th in the record books. Namatka ran a MAC qualifying time of 4:35.91.
Kyrianna Nemitz finished eighth in her mile heat with a season best time of 5:22.07.
Matthew Santana ran a career best time in the 3000 meters to finish fourth overall out of 25 runners crossing the line in 8:35.76. His time is second in program history.
Joe Chukoskie was fifth overall with a career best time of 8:38.80 to qualify for the AARTFC Championships. His time is fourth in the program record books. Rothstein ran a season best time of 8:51.21 to finish 10th. In the women's race,
Autumn Garges was sixth overall out of 30 runners with a career best time of 10:28.80 to qualify for the AARTFC Championships. Her time is eighth in program history. Nemitz ran a career best time of 10:50.05 to finish fifth in her heat while
Abigail Hunt crossed the line in a season best 10:54.65.
Coyla Bartholomew ran a career best time of 18:02.61 in the 5000 meters to finish eighth out of 26 mostly Division I runners. Her time is second in program history and qualified her for both the MAC and AARTFC Championships in the event.
Mikayla Mitchell ran a career best time of 9.57 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time is fourth on the program's top 10 list.
Daniel Murtha was ninth overall and third in his heat with a career best time of 8.47 seconds. His time is sixth in the program record books. The women's 4x200 meters relay of
Ava Matter, Berkheimer,
Karina Reilly, and
Mileyska Calderon ran an AARTFC qualifying time of 1:46.15. That time is fourth in the program record books.
Field Events
LVC had three competitors in the high jump all record their second-best heights of the year.
Graison Michajluk jumped 1.85 meters (6'0.75") while
Carolina Wegman and
Melena Koutch each jumped 1.50 meters (4'11").
Ayden Stankus finished with his second best height of his career in the pole vault at 4.64 meters (15'2.75").
Rachel Snavely had a season best height of 3.28 meters (10'9") in the women's event. Calderon recorded a season best long jump mark of 5.01 meters (16'5.25") on her second attempt.
Alyssa Betz finished 12th out of 15 throwers in the shot put as the only Division III thrower in the field was a mark of 10.61 meters (34'9.75") on her third toss.
Aonghas Evanick was 10th in the men's weight throw with a toss of 12.93 meters (42'5.25") on his third attempt while
Lauren Assante was fifth in the women's weight throw with a throw of 14.31 meters (46'1.5") on her third toss.
Anna Sawicki was the top collegiate finisher in the pentathlon and second overall with a school record point total of 3,235 topping her previous record of 3,081 from earlier this season. She also moved up to the top 15 in Division III with her total. The first-year had career best performances in four of the five events and finished first or second in each one. She started with a career best time of 9.68 seconds in the 60 hurdles to score 773 points. Her time is sixth on the program top 10 list. She then jumped 1.55 meters (5'1") in the high jump to score 678 points. Sawicki continued with a career-best throw of 10.96 meters (35'11.5") in the shot put to score 592 points. Her mark is 10th in the program record books. She had a career best mark of 4.89 meters (16'0.5") in the long jump to score 530 points and then finished with a career best time of 2:32.52 in the 800 meters to score 662 points.

The Dutchmen will head back to Franklin & Marshall College next Saturday for the third time this year where they will compete in the Blue & White Invitational.
