Dutchmen Men’s Tennis to Compete for MAC Freedom Title

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team is in search of the program's third consecutive conference title this week as the team qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship as the second seed.
 
The Dutchmen (11-8, 5-1 MAC Freedom) will face third-seeded DeSales University (10-5, 4-2 MAC Freedom) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the semifinals at the Shankroff Tennis Center. The other semifinal pairing will be top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology (11-6, 6-0 MAC Freedom) taking on FDU-Florham (4-11, 2-4 MAC Freedom) at Stephen Gregg Park in Bayonne, N.J. on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. All three MAC Freedom Championship matches have free admission.
 
A win on Wednesday will give the Dutchmen 25 consecutive home wins as well as a chance at winning another conference title in a new conference after defeating Misericordia University 9-0 on Saturday. The Dutchmen defeated DeSales 6-3 last Wednesday on Senior Day in Annville where the top three singles flights went three sets. The Ducks were 5-0 victors over FDU-Florham in a rain-shorten regular season matchup. The winners of the semifinals will meet on Saturday at the site of the higher seed for the Championship. LVC defeated FDU-Florham 9-0 in the first conference match of the year and dropped a hard-fought 9-0 decision at Stevens a couple of weeks ago.
 
The Dutchmen have been strong in doubles during conference play going 13-5. The team of Michael Schuetz and Colin Brusse is scheduled to play number one doubles against the pairing of Philip Ritchie and Jatin Prabhakar tomorrow. Schuetz has a 3-3 record in doubles during conference play while Brusse is 2-1 but the duo has not played together in a match this season. Adam Warren and Ethan Luu are set to play at number two doubles against the squad of Zachary Marshall and Reece Stein. Warren and Luu are 1-2 playing together with their win coming when play number one. Jake Erb and Jared Hostetter round out double at number three where they will face Brent Holzman and Christopher Gomez. Erb has gone 4-2 in conference matches during doubles this year but is playing with Hostetter in a match for the first time. Hostetter is 1-1 during conference play at number three doubles.
 
LVC has a 25-11 record in singles during conference play this season. Warren enters the week with a 5-1 conference record including 4-0 at number two and 1-1 record at number one. He is 7-0 in three-set matches this year and is 6-3 over his last 10. He will face Ritchie at the number one flight. Erb has held down the number three spot for most of the season where he is 4-0 in conference play and has won his last three. He is 1-1 at number two in conference play which is where he will play on Wednesday and face Prabhakar. Erb was a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 winner over Prabhakar last week. Schuetz is 13-4 in singles play and has a 4-1 conference mark. He is 9-2 at number four and 1-2 at number three singles. He will face Marshall on Wednesday in the third flight aftern winning 6-1, 6-2 in last week's match.
 
Brusse in 5-1 in conference play and 11-7 overall mostly playing number five where he is 7-4. He will play in the number four singles flight on Wednesday where he is 1-2 on the season. Brusse will face Holzman agains after defeating him 6-2, 6-4 last week. Luu will play at number five where he is 1-2 this season. The first-year will face Stein. Luu has a 1-4 record in conference play mostly playing at number six and will look to avenge a 6-4, 6-1 defeat last week to Stein. Hostetter will round out the Dutchmen lineup where he will face Gomez at number six. The first-year is 1-1 in conference play this season and 2-3 overall including a 1-2 mark at the number six flight.
