ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team is set to compete against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5. The opening round will be hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, which was the site of LVC's NCAA Regional appearance last year against Goucher College. This year's matches will be played at Goucher's Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center due to JHU hosting other events surrounding the tennis courts on their campus.
The Dutchmen are in the midst of an impressive 2022-23 campaign, in which the team has gone 17-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play. These credentials provided the team with the regular season championship, prior to winning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth title with a 5-2 victory over Stevenson University in the championship match on April 27.
Lebanon Valley has relied on several players this season to win its most matches since the 2011-12 campaign.
Brendan Byler notched the most victories on the team by going 17-2 in his singles matches.
Jesse Beck wasn't far behind, posting a 16-3 record in singles events during his first collegiate campaign. The duo was equally as impressive when it paired up as a doubles team, going 9-2.
LVC will be tasked with containing RPI, a team that took home the Liberty League title by defeating Hobart College 5-3 in the championship match at the conference tournament on April 30. The Engineers have gone 13-6 thus far, posting a 6-2 record in conference play. The first-round matchup will mark the first time that these programs have met. The winner of Friday's match will advance to take on John's Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
