Men’s Basketball Ready for New Challenges in New Conference

11/6/2023 12:55:00 PM

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's basketball team will open a new season on Wednesday with a trip north to Williamsport where they will face Lycoming College.

The Dutchmen's 25-game schedule features 11 non-conference games before they get into their first season of play in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. The schedule has a lot of familiar opponents in non-conference play and then the Dutchmen will navigate some unfamiliar territory in conference play.

LVC will begin the year against their former MAC Commonwealth rivals at Lycoming. The meeting is the first since 2020, the Warriors' final year in the MAC Commonwealth. The Dutchmen will then take part in the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Classic this weekend where they will face St. John Fisher University on Saturday evening and Marymount University on Sunday afternoon. LVC has one prior meeting with both programs last playing SJF in 2005 and Marymount in 2015.

The home opener is scheduled for November 15 as Wilkes University makes the trip down I-81. The Dutchmen will host another Landmark team a few days later on November 18 as Juniata college comes to Sorrentino Gymnasium for the first meeting since 2018. The next two games are against local rivals starting with a Thanksgiving week matchup at Elizabethtown College on November 21. The following week LVC will host Albright College on November 29 in the first meeting as members of different conferences.

December begins with a trip to Maryland on December 6 to face Stevenson University. The Dutchmen will then host Neumann University on December 9 in a rematch of last year's Rinso Marquette Tournament Championship won by the Dutchmen. The Dutchmen will have a week off before Gwynedd Mercy University visits Annville the following Saturday for the final game prior to Christmas.

LVC will come back from the holiday break with the first of two consecutive trips to New Jersey on December 30 for the final non-conference game of the year at Drew University. Conference play begins on January 3 with a trip to Hoboken to face Stevens Institute of Technology in the first-ever meeting between the programs. The Dutchmen will host Delaware Valley University on January 6 to close out the first week of MAC Freedom play. LVC defeated DVU in overtime at the Rinso Marquette Tournament last year. Week two brings road games at Misericordia University and DeSales University. The Dutchmen last played the Cougars in 2016 while they haven't faced DeSales since 2007. The Dutchmen will then be home for a pair of games against FDU-Florham and defending conference champion Arcadia University. The Dutchmen haven't played FDU-Florham since 2011 and haven't seen the Knights since 2020 when both were members of the MAC Commonwealth. LVC will play their final road game of the month on January 24 with a game at King's College. It will be the first matchup against the Monarchs since 2007.

The Dutchmen will hold their Alumni Game on January 27 prior to beginning the second round of conference play against Stevens. The team will host Misericordia on January 31 and then travel to Delaware Valley on February 3. They will stay on the road for a game at FDU-Florham on February 7 and then play DeSales on February 10 in the final home Saturday game of the year. The final week of the season includes a Tuesday night home game against King's and then the regular season finale at Arcadia on February 17.

The top four teams qualify for the MAC Freedom Championship. The semifinals are scheduled for February 21 with the final on February 24 at the site of the higher seeds.
