Sejuste Named Rookie of the Year; Two Dutchmen Listed on All-MAC Freedom Men’s Basketball Team

NEWTOWN, Pa. –  The Lebanon Valley College men's basketball team received postseason honors from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) on Wednesday, March 4, as the conference office announced the All-MAC Freedom Team and the conference's major awards in a release. First-year guard Giovanni Sejuste was named the conference's Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-MAC Freedom Second Team, while senior guard Kyle Tang was chosen as an Honorable Mention.  

Sejuste earned his first career All-MAC Freedom accolades for an excellent debut season. The guard is also the sixth player in program history to be named a conference Rookie of the Year, and he is the first member of the Dutchmen to receive the honor since Andy Orr '18 was presented with the award by the Commonwealth Conference in 2014-15. This season, Sejuste led Lebanon Valley with 331 points, 13.8 points per game, 120 field goals made, 84 free throws made, 123 total rebounds, 5.1 total rebounds per game, and 88 defensive rebounds, while tying for the lead in blocks with 19. The guard was a big part of LVC's offense with a .541 field goal percentage, a .389 three-point percentage, and 35 offensive rebounds. In the MAC Freedom, he ranked tied for second in field goal percentage, sixth in blocks, tied for seventh in free throws made, and ninth in field goals made. Sejuste delivered several impactful performances during the season, including when he recorded season-highs with 31 points and 11 field goals made while tallying five total rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in the 71-70 defeat at Stevens Institute of Technology on Jan. 28. The guard also logged 23 points, eight total rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and one assist in the 79-76 overtime victory over Delaware Valley University on Jan. 24. Sejuste was recognized for his production during the year, receiving the MAC Freedom Player of the Week award on Jan. 27.  

Tang also received his first career All-Conference honors, following a productive senior campaign. This winter, the guard led the Flying Dutchmen with 114 assists and 48 steals. Tang also ranked second on the team with 91 field goals made, second with 70 free throws made, third with 260 points, tied for third with a .500 field goal percentage, tied for third with 64 defensive rebounds, fourth with 10.4 points per game, fourth with 84 total rebounds, and fourth with 3.4 total rebounds per game. In the conference, he was first in steals, tied for first in steals per game, second with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio, second in assists, and second in assists per game. Tang came through with multiple big games during the campaign, including when he recorded career-highs with 31 points and 12 field goals while tallying three assists and two steals in the 88-87 overtime victory at King's College on Jan. 7. The senior also had 17 points, seven assists, three steals, and three total rebounds in the 82-72 defeat against Arcadia on Feb. 14.
