WILKES -BARRE, PA. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team competed at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships this weekend in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The Dutchmen had a lot of success this weekend sending five players in singles and one pair in doubles play to the finals.
SINGLES BRACKET
DOUBLES BRACKET
In doubles play, the No. 1 doubles combo of
Justin Schuetz and
Blake Martin had a lot of success as they reached the final round. In the first round, the two topped Lycoming 8-2 followed by an 8-3 victory over Wilkes to reach the semifinals. Scheutz and Martin continued to roll in the semis as they got by Stevenson 8-5 to advance to the championship match. The run for LVC would come to an end in the finals as they fell 8-1 to top-seeded Stevens. In No. 2 doubles,
Reed Morris and
Nicholas Balaci found themselves in the semis after topping King's 8-4, but would fall 8-5 to Alvernia in the semifinal round. In No. 4 doubles,
Jonathan Yenser and
William Harriger topped FDU-Florham 8-2 in the quarterfinals but would fall 8-1 to Messiah.
In singles play, Martin competed in No. 2 singles and would top DeSales, 6-3, 6-1, in the opening round followed by a competitive three-set victory, 6-1, 1-6, 10-8, over FDU-Florham to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Martin would fall to the eventual champion, Keegan Morris of Stevens, 6-1, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Balaci would top Wilkes in the quarters 6-0, 6-2, to advance easily to the semis. In the semifinal round, Balaci battled back to win a three-setter, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7, over Stevenson to earn a trip to the final round. In the championship match, Balaci would fall, 6-0, 6-1 to Mark Kanevsky of Stevens.
In No. 4 singles, Morris topped King's in straight sets followed by a three-set win over Wilkes, 6-1, 2-6, 10-7, to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Morris beat DeSales in straight sets to take on Philip Szudlarski of Stevens in the championship match. Morris would fall, 6-0, 6-1, to Szudlarski in the finals. No. 5 singles saw
Ben Hinkley make a run as he began his trip to the finals with a straight set win over Arcadia. In the semis, Hinkley won, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7, over DeSales to punch his ticket to the championship match. Hinkley would fall, 6-1, 6-0 to Gabriel Sifuentes of Stevens in the finals. In No. 6 singles, Luke Sneft would top Stevenson sets in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, followed by an easy two set win over Messiah in the semifinals. Senft would fall, 6-1, 6-0 in the finals to Arjun Krishnan of Stevenson in the championship match.
Brendan Byler had a run to the finals in No. 7 singles after wins over DeSales and Messiah. Byler topped Messiah, 6-1, 6-2 in the semis to earn his spot in the finals. In the finals, Eloi Pradier of Stevens topped Byler, 6-2, 6-0.
The Dutchmen have concluded the fall portion of their schedule and will return to action in February on their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
