Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – It wasn't easy, but Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team is headed to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Match for the second year in a row.
The Flying Dutchmen (11-6) had to outlast a game Lycoming squad (10-8) to earn a 5-4 victory in the semifinal round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon, May 1.
After LVC dropped a pair of doubles contests to the Warriors, the top duo of
Marla Scacchitti and
Melanie Haas fought back from an early deficit to defeat Lyco's No. 1 team of Devinity Apollon and Hannah Summerson 8-6. By the end of the day, the victory proved as valuable as they come.
Sammy Bost and
Megan Williams were especially strong in singles play, with Bost handling Kaitlin Hallabuk 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 outing and Williams earning a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Kimberleigh Parroccini in the fifth contest.
Meridyth Sanders won a pivotal No. 6 match over Brittany Lenze 6-1, 6-3 and
Elizabeth Drda shrugged off a first-set loss before clawing back to a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Julia Nagle in the match-deciding No 4 pairing.
The Dutchmen are now set for a rematch of last spring's MAC Commonwealth Championship Match against Messiah. The top-seeded Falcons will host the title tilt on Saturday afternoon, May 5.
