HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team opened the spring slate of its 2017-18 season in impressive fashion thanks to a 7-2 victory over Drew on the first day of the program's annual spring break trip to Hilton Head on Sunday afternoon, March 4.
The Flying Dutchmen (3-2) opened the match with a sweep in doubles play, with the top team of
Marla Scacchitti and
Melanie Haas combining for an 8-3 win,
Sammy Bost and Melanie Williams picking up an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 contest, and
Elise Hanks-Witaszek pairing with
Emily Wilczek to pull out an 8-7 win in the third matchup.
That success carried over into singles action, as four LVC players came away with solo victories. Bost went 6-1, 6-2 over Cristina Riccio in the third contest,
Elizabeth Drda took two 6-2 decisions in the No. 4 showdown, and Williams won 6-1, 6-0 over Xylia Bruff in the No. 5 slot.
Meridyth Sanders earned an 8-1 decision over Sophia Agathis in the modified sixth matchup.
The Dutchmen are back at it tomorrow afternoon when they take on Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at 3 p.m.
