ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley student-athletes combined to earn 15 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Winter and Spring Academic All-Conference honors.
Of the winter athletes, men's basketball's Andy Orr, women's basketball's Lexie Lantz, men's swimming's Ian Lloyd, men's indoor track & field's Terrence Habiyaremye, and women's indoor track & field's Lauren Decker and Olivia Jendrzejewski were recognized. From the spring sports, baseball's Zac Edwards, women's golf's Megan Kimmel, men's lacrosse's Klayton Garman and Austin Minnich, women's lacrosse's Jen Eck, men's outdoor track & field's Habiyaremye, women's outdoor track & field's Decker and Jendrzejewski, and softball's Sammy Bost earned academic all-conference status.
A total of 73 student-athletes from the league's seven winter sports, including men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming, women's swimming, men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, and wrestling were recognized, while a total of 107 student-athletes from 10 spring sports, including baseball, men's golf, women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, softball, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, men's tennis, and women's tennis were recognized.
"These recipients represent the true meaning of a student-athlete," said MAC Executive Director Ken Andrews. "This is one of the top conference awards we give out each season. It honors our student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the playing field."
The Winter and Spring Academic All-MAC Teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field of play during the 2017 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight to both academic success and athletic success.
For Orr, it is his second academic all-conference honor in as many years. The junior was named to the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second-Team and the CoBL All-Area Third-Team after earning MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference honors this winter. The big man scored 18.8 points per game during the most recent campaign, good enough to rank third in the MAC Commonwealth. The D3hoops.com and D-III News Preseason All-American also became the 35th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career. The team captain was named CoSIDA Academic All-District after posting a 3.73 GPA as a Business Administration major this spring.
Lantz, a recent graduate, picked up the first academic all-conference honor of her career. She garnered a MAC Commonwealth All-Conference Honorable Mention nod for the second season in a row after leading LVC with 7.8 rebounds per contest and ranking second on the team with an 11.5 points-per-game average. The forward was also strong on the defensive end, finishing second among Flying Dutchmen with 21 blocks. Most impressively, Lantz became the 13th player in program history to score 1,000 career points. She capped off her four-years at Lebanon Valley by earning a 4.0 spring semester GPA.
Lloyd capped his outstanding junior campaign with his second Academic All-MAC honor after winning his first MAC Championship in the 200-yard butterfly in February. He broke his own program record with an effort of 1:54.79 to secure his first gold medal and earn his third MAC First-Team All-Conference honor of this year's championship outing. Over the course of the weekend, the team captain had a hand in setting five LVC program records. He won silver in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly, and joined up with teammates Chris Kurtz, Garrett Collins, and Jay Ilgenfritz to come home seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome earned MAC All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition in the process. The Health Science major also earned a 4.0 spring semester GPA in one of the College's most competitive academic programs.
Habiyaremye's academic all-conference accolade comes after his breakout senior season that saw him pick up USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region honors in the 800-meter run this winter. The senior posted the fastest mark of his stellar career to win the 2017 ECAC Division III Indoor Championship in March with a time of 1:55.11 after winning gold in the event at the MAC Championships one week earlier. He earned another MAC Title as a member of LVC's 4x800-meter relay team that included Garrett Santis, Michael Dworzak, and Nick Scullin. The team captain picked up first-team all-conference honors in both events in the process, as well as the 4x400-meter relay and the DMR. He was similarly strong during outdoor competition, earning USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region honors after winning conference titles in the 800m and 4x800m relay, picking up All-MAC First-Team honors in both events in the process, at the league's championship meet in May. Habiyaremye, a recent graduate, posted a 3.74 semester GPA this spring.
Decker returned from an injury-plagued junior season and turned in the best season of her career as a senior. She earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region status after winning the MAC Indoor Championship in the 400-meter run to go along with first-team all-conference honors in the event, as well as the 4x800-meter relay. Decker picked up second-team all-conference recognition thanks to a fourth-place finish as a member of LVC's 4x400-meter relay team. She was pegged the MAC Track Athlete of the Week following a stellar performance at Bucknell's Bison Open in January. Her outstanding indoor season carried over to outdoor competition as Decker competed in the 400m at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet in May. The team captain reset her own program record in the 400m at Widener's Mideast Invitational with a time of 55.58. She earned USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region honors in the event after winning gold and picking up first-team all-conference recognition at the MAC Championship Meet earlier this spring. Decker has also been a standout in the classroom. A recent Health Science graduate and a member of LVC's highly-competitive Physical Therapy program, her latest accolade is her second career academic all-conference honor. She posted a 3.72 spring semester GPA.
Jendrzejewski picked up where she left off a year ago and closed out one of the most successful careers in program history. The senior came home third in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in March, earning USTFCCCA All-America honors in the process. She also took part in the long jump event at NCAAs. In addition to her second-straight indoor all-America honor, Jendrzejewski's campaign included a USTFCCCA Division III Mideast Regional Field Athlete of the Year Award for the second season in a row. She earned indoor all-region honors in all three jump events and won an ECAC Championship in the high jump. She was pegged the MAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season after winning conference titles in the long, high, and triple jump events this winter. She was also twice named the MAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. Jendrzejewski also competed at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in the high jump. She earned all-America status by finishing fifth, nationally, in the event in 2016. The three-time USTFCCCA All-American earned outdoor all-region status in the high, long, and triple jump events, as well as the 100-meter hurdles. She won a MAC Outdoor Championship in the triple jump and picked up First-Team All-MAC honors in all three jump events and the 100-meter hurdles. She is a four-time MAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and a two-time ECAC South Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Jendrzejewski has also shined academically throughout her career. She was named a CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American last spring and won the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, the league's highest individual honor, for both indoor and outdoor competition. Jendrzejewski is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and was named MAC Academic All-Conference for both indoor and outdoor competition last spring. The recent Health Science grad earned her undergraduate degree last month and recorded a 3.79 spring semester GPA as a member of LVC's highly-competitive physical therapy program.
Edwards was named D3baseball.com Second-Team All-Region, MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference, and an ECAC South Second-Team All-Star this season. The senior led the entire MAC with a .454 batting average en route to winning the league's batting title. He started all 26 games he appeared in at either second base or as the DH and ranked second on the team with 46 hits, including seven doubles and three triples. His .590 slugging percentage also led the squad, while his 26 RBI tied for second among the Dutchmen. He racked up an impressive 1.112 OPS, a .982 fielding percentage manning the middle infield, and he was also named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week. The team captain also impressed in the classroom. The Accounting and Business Administration double major became the program's first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-American after earning CoSIDA All-District honors earlier this spring. He posted a 3.92 spring semester GPA and graduated in May.
This spring, Kimmel capped the most impressive four-year career of any women's golfer in the program's short history. A 2016 MAC Champion and women's golfer of the year, the senior guided the Dutchmen to a fifth-place team finish and closed out her illustrious career by placing sixth at the league's championship event en route to earning second-team all-conference honors. Kimmel is a three-time MAC Academic All-Conference pick, a three-time first-team all-conference honoree, and a two-time league runner-up. The team captain earned her degree in May after recording a 3.39 GPA during the spring semester.
Garman had a breakout senior campaign that saw him become just the second player in the program's modern era to surpass the 100-goals mark for his career. He led the team with 40 goals and 59 total points, including two game-winning scores and seven man-up strikes. He added 26 ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers from his attack spot. He also set the program's single-game record for goals with nine in a win over Alvernia. This spring, he was a two-time MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week, an ECAC South Player of the Week, and a USILA/BSN Sports Division III National Player of the Week. He graduated in May after posting a 3.33 semester GPA this spring.
Minnich's most recent accolade, and second in as many seasons, comes after becoming the first LVC men's lacrosse player to be named a USILA/Nike Division III Scholar All-American. He was also the program's first player to be selected to the USILA/Nike Division III North/South All-Star Game. A two-year team captain, Minnich earned IMLCA Second-Team All-Region and MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference recognition for the second year in a row. The midfielder totaled 16 points on 15 goals, including a pair of game-winners, and an assist this spring. The short-stick caused 17 turnovers and scooped up a team-high 58 ground balls for the Dutchmen. Minnich has also excelled in the classroom. He recently graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology after recording a 3.97 spring semester GPA.
Eck enjoyed a breakout season for the Dutchmen on defense and was a tough matchup for every opponent. She was pegged IWLCA Second-Team All-Region after she scooped up 22 ground balls on the season, good for fourth on the squad, while causing 18 turnovers to rank second among LVC players. Against Swarthmore and Elizabethtown, she picked up four ground balls in each contest. The sophomore was also named MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference earlier this season. Eck posted a 3.64 GPA during the spring semester as an Exercise Science major.
Bost, one of the best multi-sport athletes to ever compete at LVC, became the only student-athlete in school history to earn three first-team academic all-America honors earlier this spring. The three-time NFCA All-American recently wrapped up the most impressive four-year career in program history, leading the Dutchmen to their third conference championship game in four years. She was pegged NFCA First-Team All-Region for the fourth time, named an ECAC South Honorable Mention All-Star, and she earned her fourth MAC Commonwealth Softball All-Conference First-Team honor after winning the league's regular-season batting title. The senior led the Dutchmen with a .442 batting average, 50 hits, including four doubles and a triple, and a .471 on-base percentage this spring. She slugged .496, scored 28 runs, and drove in nine more to go along with 17 stolen bases and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in center field. Earlier this season, she broke the program's all-time hits record and was tabbed the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week in March. She is the NCAA's all-time record-holder for consecutive stolen bases with 97 in a row. A recent Health Science graduate and a member of LVC's highly-competitive Physical Therapy program, Bost has also been a model of consistency in the classroom. She won the MAC's highest individual honor when she was named the conference's softball senior scholar-athlete award winner before recently earning the sixth career CoSIDA Academic All-District honor of her career (three as a softball player and three for women's soccer). She earned her undergraduate degree in May after recording a 3.81 spring semester GPA.
