ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley started off MAC Commonwealth play on the right foot when the team defeated conference foe Alvernia 6-3 at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Doubles play saw the Flying Dutchmen (6-4, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) take two matches from the Crusaders (4-3, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth), led by LVC's top team of
Marla Scacchitti and
Rebecca Pierpont.
The pair worked hard to defeat the team of Cassandra Noray and Amanda Phillips 9-8.
Elise Hanks-Witaszek and
Melanie Haas had no such trouble with Cassandra Bean and Xena Sperrazza in the third doubles match, taking care of the Alvernia duo 8-1.
A pair of singles contests went to three sets, with LVC players emerging victorious in both of them. Pierpont, Lebanon Valley No. 2 solo player, held off Phillips 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, while
Alyssa Potosnak outlasted Alex Diosteanu 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the fourth matchup.
Elizabeth Drda took care of Bean 6-0, 7-6 in the five spot and
Megan Williams bested Sperrazza 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 outing.
The Dutchmen look to keep rolling when they host King's (Pa.) for a non-conference match at the Shankroff Tennis Center tomorrow afternoon.
