ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley and Ursinus played a modified version of tennis on Thursday afternoon, beating the rains to the punch before the weather conditions forced the courts at the Shankroff Tennis Center to be deemed unplayable.
Playing each match as a first-to-eight-points contest, the Bears (8-3) defeated the Flying Dutchmen (5-4) 9-0.
Ursinus' Aileen Bevard and Ashley Nguyen defeated LVC's top doubles team of Marla Scacchiti and
Rebecca Pierpont 8-1, while the second doubles team of
Alyssa Potosnak and
Megan Williams was swept by Caitlyn Sorelle and Ariel Danziger. The Bears' Robin Alsher and Christine Palazzolo held off
Melanie Haas and
Elise Hanks-Witaszek in the number three pairing.
Scacchiti fell to Bevard 8-3 in the top singles matchup and Pierpont was bested by Sorelle 8-1 in the second solo contest. Nguyen defeated Haas 8-2 in the third pairing and Potosnak dropped an 8-4 decision to Danziger in the No. 4 match. In No. 5 action, Alsher picked up an 8-3 victory over
Elizabeth Drda, while Williams fell to Palazzolo 8-2 in the sixth outing.
The Dutchmen are back in action when they begin conference action by hosting MAC Commonwealth foe Alvernia at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
