ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the young season in convincing fashion when the squad defeated Penn State Harrisburg 8-1 at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 4.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-2) won all three doubles contests, led by the team's top duo of
Marla Scacchitti and
Melanie Haas. The pairing handled Penn State Harrisburg's Sydney Nye and Courtney Bennett 8-2. LVC's No. 2 team of
Megan Williams and
Elise Hanks-Witaszek held off the Lions' Sodrya Chittibabu and Abby Clifford with an 8-6 decsion, while
Sammy Bost and
Elizabeth Drda made quick work of Sheiva Ansary and Bora Jung in the third matchup.
LVC came away with three sweeps in singles action, with Bost, Williams, and
Meridyth Sanders all earning 6-0, 6-0 victories over their opponents in the third, fifth, and sixth matchups, respectively. Haas earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 2 contest, as did Drda in the fourth outing.
The Dutchmen are back at it on Friday afternoon when they host Susquehanna at the Shankroff Tennis Center for their final dual match of the fall campaign.
