Tournament Bracket
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A pair of Lebanon Valley singles players and two LVC doubles teams advanced to the semifinal round of the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women's Tennis Individual Championship Tournament with victories on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Elizabeth Drda, the No. 3 seed in the No. 4 bracket, will face Allyson Wolf of FDU-Florham in semifinal action on Sunday with a berth in the finals on the line. Drda defeated Delaware Valley's Laken Henry 6-0, 6-4 in first round action before besting Arcadia's Laryssa Badulak 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
In No. 5 singles action,
Megan Williams picked up two victories and will now take on Wilkes' Brittany Stanton, the top overall seed in the bracket, in the semifinal round on Sunday. Williams came away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over King's Martina Gale in the first round and followed it up with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Stevenson's Megan Waskiewicz in quarterfinal action.
In addition to the singles matchups, the Flying Dutchmen will also have two doubles teams in action on Sunday, with a berth in the championship match on the line in each outing.
In the No. 3 doubles bracket, LVC's team of
Elise Hanks-Witaszek and Emily Wilzcek won two matches to earn a trip to the semifinal round. First, the pair defeated a duo from Messiah by an 8-4 margin before topping a pairing from DeSales 8-6. They'll face off with FDU-Florham's No. 3 team on Sunday.
Drda and
Rachel Duong will also compete for the chance at a trip to the finals, with their advancement coming in the No. 4 doubles bracket. The duo earned a first-round bye but defeated DeSales No. 4 pairing 8-3 to move on. On Sunday, they'll look to best FDU-Florham's duo and advance to the championship match.
The semifinal rounds for both singles and doubles flights are scheduled to begin on Sunday morning, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.
