GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley couldn't make an early lead following doubles play stick as the Flying Dutchmen dropped a 5-4 decision at Alvernia in the team's regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.
LVC (7-10, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) picked up wins in the first and third doubles outings, as the team's top duo of
Rebecca Pierpont and
Marla Scacchitti defeated Cassandra Noray and Amanda Phillips 8-6, while
Allison Weidman and
Megan Williams were victorious over Cassandra Bean and Xena Sperrazza 9-7 in the number three matchup.
Unfortunately, only
Alyssa Potosnak and
Elizabeth Drda were able to secure victories in singles action in the fifth and sixth outings, respectively. Potosnak, LVC's number five, handled Sperrazza 6-0, 6-1 and Drda defeated Bean 6-1, 6-1.
Olivia Edwards took Lillian Hussar to three sets before falling 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the number three solo pairing, while Scacchitti made things tough on Phillips in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat in the second singles outing.
With the regular season now behind them, it's on to postseason play for the Dutchmen. They travel to top-seeded Messiah for MAC Commonwealth postseason tournament semifinal action on Tuesday afternoon.
