How It HappenedWEST CHESTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley finished its 2015-16 regular season strong by defeating West Chester 6-3 on Saturday night. The Dutchmen finished the regular season with an impressive 24-5 overall record and a 14-5 ESCHL mark.
It was a high-scoring first period, as the Rams found the back of the net at 17:08 to make it 1-0, but
Bryan Hovanec evened things up at 1-1 with a power play goal at 11:58 off assists from
Justin Boyd and
Mike Straub. Later in the first, with 3:40 remaining, West Chester retook the lead, but with 2:02 left in the opening period,
Travis Acker scored another LVC power-play goal from
Travis Hall and
Andy Thurby and the score was tied at 2-2 at the end of one.
The second period was unlike the first in that only one goal was scored. With 1:39 left in the period, Acker scored a PP goal from
Jacob Horst and
Jake Thomas and the Dutchmen went into the third period with a one-goal advantage.
With 14:07 remaining in the third,
Nick Skerlick extended the lead to 4-2 with a goal from
Cody Pessig and Horst, and with 9:13 to go,
Russ Armbruster made it a 5-2 contest from
Ryan Maraldo and
Joey LaBonte. At 7:51, Skerlick added one more for good measure from
Brennan Thompson and Straub to bring LVC's lead to three at 6-2. The Rams added a goal in the final minute, however the Dutchmen held on comfortably for the 6-3 win.
Top Performers - Skerlick and Acker each had two goals, while Straub and Horst added two assists apiece.

Playoff PictureThe Dutchmen have earned a first-round bye in next weekend's ESCHL playoff tournament at Hersheypark Arena. LVC will play in the semifinal matchup Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
