ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swim teams swept Stevenson on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 5. The men earned a 118-55 victory and the women won their meet 129-76.
Erica Wise continued her outstanding debut campaign as the freshman set the program's 100m backstroke record, despite running the event just once prior to Saturday's event. Her time of 1:10.75 broke the school's previous record set in 2003 by .37 seconds. It is the fourth LVC record she's set this season. Wise picked up her first victory of the afternoon in the 50m free when she touched in 27.73, topping Stevenson's Liv Snyder by more than a full second.
Bobby Burkhart was the second Dutchman to set a school record on Saturday and the mark he bested was one he set a year ago. The senior swam a 1:10.97 in the 100m breaststroke, breaking his previous record of 1:11.36.
The women started the day with a 200m medley relay win, as
Madison Martin,
Lauren Skorupski,
Kendall Mehaffey, and
Emily Walak combined to post a time of 2:23.44, besting the Mustang's top foursome by .39 seconds in a tight one.
Jan Ikeda, the reigning Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women's Swimmer of the Week, won the 100m fly in impressive fashion as her time of 1:08.32 was nearly 10 seconds faster than Natalie Wasicko, the runner-up from Stevenson.
Alayna Kalinay and
Leslie Hiller finished 1-2 in the 100m free with Kalinay touching in 1:06.07 and Hiller following her with a 1:07.56. Skorupski was the 100m breaststroke winner. Her time of 1:26.54 was good enough to best the Mustangs' Elizabeth Kamosa by more than a second and a half.
Ikeda, Hiller, Kalinay, and Wise teamed up to win the 200m free relay, turning in a strong time of 1:58. 39.
Katie Gingrich,
Marie Gorman,
Katie Frace, and
Kyra Valent earned runner-up status thanks to their combined time of 2:11.72.
Ian Lloyd, the reigning MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, led the men to another team victory thanks to his 100m fly win by (1:00.60) by more than four seconds over Stevenson's Zac Cather, and a strong leg as member of LVC's 200m medley relay team that included
Chris Kurtz, Burkhart, and
Clay Heebner. The foursome touched in a combined 1:58.38.
Brandon Seigel earned the first solo victory of the day on the men's side, winning the 50m free with a time of 25.45, just .33 seconds off the program record time of 25.12. Kurtz, Seigel, and
David Corvino went 1-2-3 in the men's 100m free with Kurtz's 56.20 besting the top Mustang time by more than three and a half seconds.
Bryce Betz was the 100m backstroke winner, finding the wall in 1:11.55, while
Blade Umstead used a time of 1:13.24 to come home second.
Garrett Collins was the day's distance star as he earned a victory in the 400m free thanks to his time of 4:48.18, more than seven seconds better than Stevenson's Zac Cather.
LVC's 200m free relay team consisting of Corvino, Umstead, Kurtz, and Heebner capped the day's action with a win, combining to finish the relay in 1:45.14.
The Dutchmen travel to Misericordia for their last meet of 2015 on Saturday, Dec. 12. The meet gets underway at 12 p.m.
