YORK, Pa. – Lebanon Valley swimming senior
Noryan Mitchell swam the best two 50-yard freestyle times of her career to finish 20th to highlight action on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York on Thursday.
Mitchell swam a career-best time of 26.37 seconds to win her heat in prelims and qualify for the "C" Final in the 50-yard freestyle. She then beat that time in the finals as she finished fourth in the finals heat with a time of 26.35 seconds to finish 20 overall.
Ryan Kuffa finished 24th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.54 in the "C" Final. Kuffa qualified for the finals with a season-best time of 5:03.41 during the morning preliminaries.
Owen Fastrich swam a season-best time of 5:226.08 to finish 31st in prelims.
Marina Weidman finished 27th in the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:29.35. She was two seconds off her career-best time that she swam at last year's MAC Championships.
Kuffa won his heat in preliminaries and qualified for the 50-yard freestyle "C" with a season-best time of 22.73 seconds. The first-year then finished seventh in his heat during the finals with a time of 23.18 seconds to finish 23rd overall.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of
Edward McClain, Fastrich, Kuffa, and
Graham Peperak finished 19th with a time of 2:03.91. The women's "A" squad of Mitchell,
Nora Cuthie, Weidman, and
Jana Shoffner finished 10th with a time of 2:03.40. The "B" team of
Maya Sussman,
Lily McNutt,
Colbey Brown, and
Natalie Bourne swam a time of 2:07.27 to finish 20th.
The second day of action will begin tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary heats of the 400-yard individual medley, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard freestyle.
