YORK, Pa. – Marina Weidman swam a big career-best time in the 100-yard butterfly and led the Dutchmen relay teams to a pair of ninth place finishes on the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships on Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.
Noryan Mitchell started out the day by qualifying for the "C" Final in the 400-yard individual medley with a career-best time of 5:33.41. She improved on that time in the final as she touched the wall in 5:30.18 to finish 21st.
Owen Fastrich qualified for the "C" Finals in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 58.56 seconds in preliminaries. The sophomore then swam a time of 59.14 seconds in the final to finish 24th.
Weidman won her preliminary heat and qualified for the "C" Final in the 100-yard butterfly with a career-best time of 1:05.15. She then swam a time of 1:07.88 in the final to finish 24th.
Colbey Brown had a career-best time of 1:08.00 in prelims to finish 31st.
Nora Cuthie also had a career-best time of 1:13.63 to finish 34th. Brown came back during preliminaries and swam a career-best time of 2:23.29 in the 200-yard freestyle to finish 34th.
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Ryan Kuffa,
Ryan Moreno, Fastrich, and
Caleb Sikalis finished 11th in 1:42.91. The women's "A" team of Weidman,
Natalie Bourne,
Jana Shoffner, and Mitchell finished ninth in 1:46.54, just missing a spot on the podium. The "B" team of
Lily McNutt,
Ryann Kirkpatrick,
Maria Sagos, and Cuthie had a time of 1:59.62 to finish 21st.
The Dutchmen wrapped up the night with the 400-yard medley relay as the men's squad of Kuffa, Sikalis, Fastrich, and Moreno finished 10th with a time of 4:16.77. The women's "A" team just missed the podium again as Weidman, Cuthie, Mitchell, and Bourne finished ninth in 4:34.61. The "B" squad of
Maya Sussman, McNutt, Brown, and Shoffner finished 21st with a time of 4:43.17.
Day three will begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the swimming of the 200-yard butterfly, the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
