How It HappenedPITTSBURGH, Pa. – Lebanon Valley fell to Swarthmore in the ECAC South Semifinal by a 3-0 score on Saturday afternoon at Carnegie Mellon. The Dutchmen ended their season with a 22-11 overall record, while the Garnet improved to 21-9 and advanced to the championship game where they defeated the hosts, Carnegie Mellon, 3-1.
Tied at 11-11 in the first set, Swarthmore put together an 11-3 run to go up 22-14 and went on to take the set 25-16 and a 1-0 lead in the match.
LVC held a slight edge at 9-7 in the middle set, however a 6-4 Garnet run tied the set at 13-13. Later, the Dutchmen were down by four at 19-15, but came back to knot the set at 20-20 thanks to a 5-1 spurt. Swarthmore scored five of the final eight points to clinch a close set at 25-23 and take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Garnet began the third set on an 11-4 run and later extended the lead to 20-8. After that, the Dutchmen battled back with a 5-2 run to make it 22-13, but the Garnet were able to finish off LVC and take the final set 25-16.
Sides Makes HistoryComing into today's match,
Emily Sides needed just one dig to get to the 1,000 mark in her career, and she achieved that feat and then some. She totaled 12 digs today and is one of six players to wear an LVC jersey to record 1,000 digs or more in a career.

Jess Attieh led the way on the offense with 11 kills, while
Greta Weidemoyer had eight and
Amber Deshong posted seven.

Alli Quirk had three.

Abbey Barnhart added nine.
