Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley had a strong showing to start the Rumble In the Valley Tournament, taking down Gwynedd Mercy and Penn State Altoona by 3-0 scores.
The Dutchmen improved to 5-1 and will close the tournament Saturday against McDaniel and Franklin & Marshall.
In the opening match, LVC used long serving runs to break open each set against Gwynedd Mercy, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-11. The Dutchmen racked up 15 service aces, including five from
Kacey Musselman and four by
Taylor Troutman, all in an 11-point run to end the third.
Kayla Confer led the offense with eight kills on 10 swings (.700), and
Emily Sides,
Nina Mentzer, and
Greta Weidemoyer each had six kills in a distributed attack. Musselman finished with 30 assists and 12 digs.
The Dutchmen closed the first set on an 11-1 run, then raced out to a 10-4 start in the second before Musselman served it to 17-4 on the way to a 25-10 win. GMC led early in the third, but LVC chipped away until Troutman took the serve up 14-11 and finished it out.
The Penn State Altoona match was tighter, with LVC winning by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16. The front line again had a good match with Weidemoyer notching 13 kills to hit .393 and Troutman and Confer each racking up 11.
Allie Garrett dug out 16 balls to lead the defense, with
Emily Sides getting under 10.
LVC's block played well with solo stuffs by
Alli Quirk, Confer, and Weidemoyer to go with 11 block assists in all.
Kacey Musselman had a 37-assist, nine-dig outing that included three kills.
