Baldwin Wallace 66, Lebanon Valley College 48 (NCAA Tournament – First Round)

YORK, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team ended their season on Friday evening with a 66-48 loss to Baldwin Wallace in the NCAA Tournament First Round in York.

"Baldwin Wallace is a very good team and did the things they wanted to do. I give credit to them for a game well played," head coach Todd Goclowski said.

The Yellow Jackets were dominant inside and out, draining 10-of-21 shots from three-point range (47.6%), including 5-of-7 in the second half. BW also held a 39-30 advantage on the glass in the contest and will go on to face the winner of York (Pa.) and La Roche in the second round on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Junior Kiely Chaklos and sophomore Peyton Carper led the way for the Valley with 12 points apiece, while senior Caitlin Bach, playing in her final game in the Blue and White along with classmate Lauren Ruhl, added 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

"Caitlin and Lauren have been through so much with the program and it's difficult to see them end their careers on a note like tonight," Goclowski said. "They've been and continue to be terrific ambassadors of the college and of our women's basketball program and I couldn't be more proud of them and what they've accomplished. We're going to miss them greatly."

BW's Shari Mangas led all scorers with 15 points, going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Jessica Lairson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Jackets, who shot 24-for-54 from the floor (44.4%), compared to Lebanon Valley's 16-for-49 (32.7%) shooting from the field.

Following a 9-2 Baldwin Wallace run midway through the first half, Carper made a great play on both ends of the court. Her active hands caused a strip and she took it the length of the floor for the bucket to pull the Valley within four, 13-9.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn't last long as the Valley pulled within two at 15-13, but Baldwin Wallace ripped off another nine straight to take a 24-13 lead at the six-minute mark in the first. The Jackets held that lead through the rest of the half and the game went into the break with BW up, 32-19.

The Yellow Jackets answered every Valley push to open the second half as the Dutchmen got within 10 on an and-one jumper, but gave up five straight following that free throw and BW took a 46-30 lead, their largest of the game to that point, with 12:07 to play. Baldwin Wallace worked that until the final buzzer, coming away with a 66-48 win.

"Keeping it in perspective is important," Goclowski concluded. "Our season was an incredible journey. I'm really pleased with what we did in our conference season and cracking the tournament this year, especially with such a young team. I think our team made the most of this season and I'm very proud that we were able to come together and accomplish what we did."

The Valley ends their season with an overall record of 21-7, making their seventh straight trip to the Commonwealth Conference championship game and fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
