VILLANOVA, Pa. - Brennan Thompson scored the opening goal and the final marker to lead the Lebanon Valley ice hockey team to a 3-2 shootout victory over Villanova on Saturday evening.
Thompson opened the scoring, while
Joey LaBonte tied the game at tqo apiece in the third on a 4-on-3 powerplay. Scoreless throughour the overtime session, the game went into a shootout.
Jacob Horst missed the first opportunity, but
Justin Boyd came back with a beautiful backhand-forehand move to slot it past the Villanova goaltender.
Although LaBonte missed his next attempt, goaltender
Matt Healy was solid, allowing
Klayton Garman and Thompson to finsih off the game with back-to-back conversions.
The win marks the eighth straight for the Dutchmen to close out the 2013-14 regular season with an overall record 14-15-1. The Valley will take on Rutgers in the ESCHL quarterfinals on Friday at 8:50 p.m.
