ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Caitlin Bach notched the 1,000th point of her career, but the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team could not hold off Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon, falling 48-46.

With four seconds to play and the game tied at 46-46, Elizabethtown's Taylor Kreider, whom the play was clearly drawn up for, drove down the left side of the lane. Instead of taking it all the way, she dished it to Taylor Alwine, who spotted up from 15 feet and drained the game-winning jumper. Senior Lauren Ruhl wasn't able to get a last-second heave off in time and the buzzer sounded with a 48-46 final.

Bach led the Dutchmen with nine points on the afternoon, currently sitting at 1,004 for her career. The Manchester, Md. native went 4-for-7 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line, adding six rebounds, an assist, and a block to her historic day.

A defensive battle throughout the game, the first half was a particular struggle for the Valley. LVC made just three field goals in 28 attempts for a cold 10.7% shooting mark. Despite only putting up 11 points, the defense hung tough, though, allowing just 18 from the Blue Jays to head into the break down just seven.

The Valley came out in the second half a completely different team. After giving up the first bucket, the Dutchmen ripped off 12 straight points to grab their first lead of the game, 23-20, with 15:49 to play. From then on, it was a battle similar to the first contest this season, where 38 minutes were played within one possession.

A three-pointer from the Blue Jays' Rachel Forjan at the 6:32 mark put Elizabethtown up, 40-35, their largest lead of the second half since the 17:58 point. Five straight from Bach, though, tied it up at 40 apiece with 5:04 to play.

With 1:13 to play and the game knotted up at 44 apiece, sophomore Taylor Umbrell drove through the lane and found a wide open Ruhl in the left corner. The senior knocked down the open look and put the Dutchmen in front, 46-44.

On the ensuing possession, Elizabethtown cleared out space for Taylor Kreider to go one-on-one and Kreider delivered with a strong drive to the right side to tie it at 46-46 with 54 seconds remaining. An LVC turnover with 21 seconds to play opened the door for Alwine's jumper to seal the game with a final score of 48-46.

Despite their shooting struggles, the Valley were dominant on the glass, holding a 47-28 advantage on the boards. Freshman Lexie Lantz led LVC with seven rebounds, all in the first half.

With the loss, the Dutchmen drop to 15-4 on the year and 9-3 in Commonwealth Conference play. Elizabethtown moves into a tie for first place with LVC with an overall record of 15-3 and an identical 9-3 mark in conference action.

The Valley heads to Frederick, Md. on Wednesday aiming to split the season series with Hood. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
