ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team used solid defense and impressive glass work to take care of Susquehanna to open 2014 on Thursday evening inside LVC Gymnasium, 68-42.

The Valley outrebounded the Crusaders in impressive fashion, holding a 44-23 advantage throughout the game. Additionally, Susquehanna only tallied one assist as a team in the entire second half of play as LVC made it difficult for the Crusaders to run their sets.

Three LVC players scored in double figures, led by sophomore Peyton Carper, who missed just one shot on the night, tallying 15 points. Carper went 4-for-5 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range, and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Joining Carper in double digits was classmate Bridget Rothert with 13 points and senior Lauren Ruhl adding 10 points. In addition to the rebound dominance, the Dutchmen also posted seven blocks on the night with senior Caitlin Bach recording four and freshman Lexie Lantz tallying three.

Yet another positive coming out of Thursday evening's performance was the free-throw shooting as LVC put together one of the best shooting efforts from the free-throw line in program history. As a team, the Valley made 19-of-21 from the stripe as junior Kiely Chaklos, freshman Ellen Bair, Bach, Ruhl, and Carper were all perfect from the foul line.

The game began very even as Susquehanna's quick pressure defense kept them in the game through the early minutes, working to a 22-22 tie with 4:13 left in the half. However, the Dutchmen rattled off 12 straight points to go into the halftime break with a 34-22 lead and had the game in hand from that point forward.

The lead steadily increased throughout the second half as the Valley cruised to a 68-42 win moving them to 9-1 on the year.

Next up for LVC is a matchup with Alvernia as part of a quintupleheader at LVC Gymnasium on Saturday at 3 p.m.
