DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Lebanon Valley fell victim to a ninth-inning walk-off for the second straight game as Delaware Valley came away with a 6-5 win on Tuesday.
The Dutchmen (9-20) took the lead in the top of the ninth, but the Aggies (16-15) rallied for two in the bottom of the frame to pick up the victory.
Derek Brousseau went 7.1 innings in the start, allowing two earned while striking out seven;
Phill Dohner pitched the balance of the game and was hooked with the loss.
Tim Filer went 3-for-3 with a walk and a hit by pitch to lead LVC at the plate, and Brousseau and
Andrew DeCew drove in runs.
Del Val went up 1-0 with a run in the first, but the Dutchmen answered with a three-spot in the fourth, taking advantage of a wild pitch and an error to score DeCew and
Corey Cinicola before Brousseau's RBI double brought in
Glenn Dietrich. The LVC lead went to 4-1 in the seventh thanks to DeCew bringing in Filer, but Del Val tied it at 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth after a pair of LVC errors.
In the ninth, Brousseau led off with a single, and after Dohner successfully bunted him to second, he stole third and scored on a wild pitch to give LVC a 5-4 lead. The advantage wouldn't last long, however; consecutive singles by the Aggies' Brandon Bell and Cody Hudnall put the winning run on first, and a throwing error by Dohner on Jordan Heisler's sacrifice attempt allowed two runs to score and end the game.
The Dutchmen will return home Wednesday to play a make-up date with Valley Forge Christian College.
