Lebanon Valley 8, Villanova 3

HERSHEY, Pa. – In its regular season finale, #22 Lebanon Valley was able to dominate Villanova in a 8-3 win at Hersheypark Arena Saturday.

The Dutchmen (21-8, 11-3 ECHA) held their annual Senior Day to celebrate the careers of seniors Cole Bell, Brent Davis, Wes Landsem, and Matthew Turner. Each player was recognized prior to the start of the game.

Jimmy McNally opened up the scoring seven minutes in with an unassisted shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that fell off the goalie's glove and into the net. The celebration was shortlived. Villanova (9-19, 5-8) came off the next faceoff, took the puck down the ice, and tied the game on a goal by Bobby Edwards.

Tyler Skroski took a shot from the right circle that was saved by Nova's Nick DeSimone, but Bobby Doughty was in place to score on the deflection with 9:13 to play in the period and give LVC its second lead. His goal proved to be the game winner.

The Dutchmen made a stand late in the first, scoring three rapid fire goals. Josh Martin scored with 3:53 to play through a scrum of bodies. Skroski scored a goal on his next try – an easy wrist flick from seven feet in front of the net with 1:19 on the clock. Landsem scored 20 seconds later to give LVC a 5-1 lead, which they carried into intermission.

The second period was relatively quiet. Brian Doyle struck first for Villanova with 8:14 to play to Colin Catherman's stick side. Bell took a shot for LVC with 4:14 to play that was pushed in by a tripped up IceCats player. Bell's goal came on a Dutchmen power play.

Klayton Garman started the final period off with a bang, scoring less than three minutes in. Garman's goal came on a power play that lasted just 15 seconds, keeping the Dutchmen a perfect 2-for-2 on power play opportunities. Danny Willey followed up with a goal from the center of the left circle with 12:20 to play.

The IceCats took a goal back when Jeff Christie scored unassisted two minutes later, but there was no true swing in momentum.

Turner made the start in goal, but Catherman played the majority of the game. LVC finished with a 39-21 advantage in shots on goal, and Catherman made 18 saves.

The Dutchmen will compete in the ECHA Tournament next weekend. Additional details, including opponents and scheduling will be posted to GoDutchmen.com.
