Lebanon Valley 3, Canisius 4
HERSHEY, Pa. – Though #21 Lebanon Valley led through most of Friday night's game, they were overtaken late in the third period and lost 4-3 to Canisius.
The Dutchmen (19-7) took an early lead with a pair of first period goals by
John Hagy and
Klayton Garman. Hagy scored unassisted on a hard striker from out near the blue line with 16:12 to play. He had to break a tackle to do it, but
Klayton Garman scored minutes later from beside the crease. The goal, assisted by
Cole Bell and
Andy Thurby, came shorthanded with 12:00 on the clock.
Patrick Hurtubise put Canisius (20-10) on the board with 15:33 to play in the second. Matt Turner left the crease and had to dive to full extension to his stick side to try to make the stop. Hurtubise wrapped around and connected on a pass from Jess Hackett.
Chad Loughran tied the game for the Golden Griffins with 15:04 to play in the third on a wristshot to Turner's stick side.
The tie was short lived, as
Alex Sweeney scored less than two minutes later. Sweeney came up from behind the net and scored gloveside from beside the crease.
Bobby Doughty and
Marquise Cotten assisted.
Jesse Caulkins tied the game back up at 3-3 with a power play goal at the 5:15 mark. Robbie Lockamyeir gave his team lead minutes later, and they held on to win.
A lot of big hits from both sides led to a lot of puck chasing. It wasn't a finesse game, but the Dutchmen got their share of shots and finished with a 49-25 advantage.
Turner made 21 saves in goal, earning just his second loss of the season.
The Dutchmen will look to snap their current four-game losing streak Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., as they host Towson at the GIANT Center.
