#20 Lebanon Valley College 70, Clarkson University 57

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore Bridget Rothert went four-for-six from distance to lead the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team to a 70-57 win on Saturday evening in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

The opening round win sends LVC to the title game in the Hampton Inn/Microtel Cardinal Classic at SUNY-Plattsburgh. The Dutchmen will take on the hometown Cardinals at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Rothert was excellent all night for the Valley as she went 6-of-9 from the field to go along with her four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 17 points. Junior Kiely Chaklos and sophomore Peyton Carper also scored in double figures with 11 points apiece.

Clarkson came out of the gate quick, jumping out to an early 13-5 lead on a jumper from Stephanie Grobe. However, the Dutchmen began to get settled in throughout the half, finally taking their first lead of the game at the 5:03 mark on a Carper layup at 27-26 and took a 40-31 lead into the halftime break.

The Dutchmen came out in the second and didn't take long to extend the lead to double-digits and keep it there. Back-to-back threes in the opening two minutes from Rothert pushed the lead to 12 at 46-34 and a layup from sophomore Taylor Umbrell at the 6:55 mark gave LVC its largest lead of the game at 62-43. That cushion allowed the Valley to cruise for the remaining minutes and hold on for the 70-57 win.

Senior Cailtin Bach was solid on the glass with 12 rebounds and chipped in with five points and four assists. Additionally, Umbrell and senior Lauren Ruhl added eight and seven points, respectively.

LVC went 25-for-59 from the field (42.4%) and sunk 5-of-14 three-point field goals (35.7%) and 15-of-20 shots from the foul line (75%). The Dutchmen were dead even with Clarkson on the boards, posting 39 rebounds each, and tallied 16 assists on their 25 field goals.
