Lebanon Valley 3, Stevenson 2
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -
Lauren Brumbach's hat trick pushed Lebanon Valley past Stevenson, 3-2, to start Commonwealth Conference play off with a win.
The Dutchmen (5-6, 1-0 CC) dominated with a 20-6 shot advantage, but the determined Mustangs (7-6) took advantage of a pair of Caitlin Dempsey goals in the first half to tie it 2-2 at the break.
Brumbach scored the opener just 3:48 into the game, finishing a corner from
Megan Harris' pass, but Dempsey equalized for the hosts in the 13th minute off a deflection. Brumbach's blast from the top of the arc temporarily gave LVC the lead back a few minutes later, but Dempsey again helped the Mustangs with her second at 26:13.
The gamewinner came at 38:52, when Brumbach deflected a shot off the goalkeeper and in to put LVC ahead 3-2, a lead they would hold for the balance of the game as the defense limited Stevenson to a single second-half shot.
Chloe Baro made two saves, and
Kristen Garman had a defensive save for the Dutchmen. Gabriella Brooks was oustanding for Stevenson with 12 saves in the losing effort. LVC held an 8-4 penalty corner advantage.
LVC will visit Albright Oct. 9.
