Field Hockey Shuts Down Marywood Behind Weidenhammer Hat Trick

SCRANTON, Pa. – Claire Weidenhammer powered the Lebanon Valley College field hockey team to a dominant 5-0 road victory over Marywood in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday afternoon with her second hat trick of the season.

The Dutchmen controlled play from the opening whistle as Claire Weidenhammer put two shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of play. LVC earned a corner at 11:00, and Jillian Tait had a shot saved off the attempt. Claire Weidenhammer broke the scoreless tie shortly after at the 11:43 mark when she finished a pass from Danika Setlock for her 12th goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, she converted a penalty stroke to double the advantage.

Lebanon Valley added to its lead midway through the second period when Alexis Nasuta buried a penalty stroke, making it 3-0. Claire Weidenhammer had another shot saved a few minutes prior to the stroke. The Pacers earned their first corner of the game late in the half and were able to get two shots off. Ella Weidenhammer saved the first, and the second shot was blocked to preserve the shutout into the break.

Claire Weidenhammer completed her hat trick early in the third quarter with her 14th goal of the season, pushing the margin to 4-0 just 3:04 into the half. The Pacers started to gain some momentum on the offensive end, earning four corners over the rest of the quarter with four shots. They were able to put three of the shots on goal as Ella Weidenhammer stayed strong in the cage and knocked all three shots away. Maggie McAteer nearly gave the Dutchmen another goal midway through the quarter as her shot was kept out of the cage by a defensive player.

The Dutchmen came out firing to begin the fourth quarter, and Tait capped the scoring at 51:23 for LVC's fifth goal of the afternoon. Her previous two shots in the quarter were saved. Marywood battled over the final 10 minutes, putting pressure on the defense, but Ella Weidenhammer made five saves to earn another shutout.
