ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jillian Tait recorded the first hat trick of her career to lead the Lebanon Valley College field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Delaware Valley in MAC Freedom action on Saturday evening at Arnold Field in Annville
The Flying Dutchmen wasted little time taking control as Tait opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the contest as she knocked in a ball in front of the cage off an assist from Claire Weidenhammer. Less than three minutes later, Lilah Shaub doubled the advantage as she redirected a pass from Tait into the back of the cage to give LVC a 2-0 lead. The Dutchmen continued to dominate possession throughout the rest of the quarter. Delaware Valley had a look at the goal off a corner attempt in the 12th minute, but Ella Weidenhammer was there to keep the ball out of the cage. Lebanon Valley controlled possession throughout the first half, outshooting the Aggies and generating numerous penalty corner opportunities, but the score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.
The Dutchmen added to their lead in the third quarter when Tait found the back of the cage at 40:06 for her second goal of the day and seventh of the season. After a pair of shots saved earlier in the quarter from Tait and Claire Weidenhammer, Tait blasted a shot into the corner of the cage from just inside the circle. Tait completed her hat trick early in the fourth quarter, converting at 50:12 to push the lead to 4-0. Delaware Valley broke up the shutout with a goal from Isabella Davis at 53:32, but LVC answered less than three minutes later. Claire Weidenhammer capped the scoring with her team-leading 15th goal of the season, finishing a crossing feed from Maggie McAteer for the 5-1 final.
