Field Hockey Earns Road Win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College field hockey team turned in a dominant road performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating host Juniata College 4-1 at Knox Stadium behind a pair of goals from Claire Weidenhammer and Lauren Foster.

The Flying Dutchmen controlled play from the opening whistle and struck first just 4:48 into the contest when Claire Weidenhammer scored her ninth goal of the year to give LVC a 1-0 advantage. Lebanon Valley continued to pressure the Eagles throughout the first quarter, generating multiple scoring opportunities and penalty corners while holding Juniata without a shot. Jillian Tait and Claire Weidenhammer had shots saved while the Dutchmen put five shots wide of the cage.

Foster doubled the lead late in the second period as she found the back of the cage at the 27:23 mark with her second goal of the season. The Dutchmen and Eagles battled throughout the quarter, with LVC taking three shots and Juniata putting one shot on goal during the 15 minutes. Claire Weidenhammer put a shot wide early in the quarter, and then Foster had a shot saved in the final minute. The Eagles had their first real threat of the game in the 21st minute with a pair of penalty corners that ended with Ella Weidenhammer making a save on the first JC shot of the game.

The Dutchmen put the game firmly in their control early in the third quarter. After a series of penalty corners, where Tait had a shot saved, Claire Weidenhammer scored her second goal of the afternoon at 31:23 off an assist from Isabella Gonnion to make it 3-0. Just over seven minutes later, Foster added her second goal of the match, extending the advantage to 4-0. Juniata broke up the shutout with 2:44 remaining in the third period as they were able to find the back of the cage on a penalty corner attempt.

LVC dominated the action for the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter with four penalty corners and four shots on goal. Abby Rodenberger, Maggie McAteer, and Tait all had shots saved by the keeper before Lilah Shaub got one past the goalie, but a defensive player was there to keep the ball out of the cage. Juniata had one last shot in the closing minutes on a penalty corner, which was saved by Ella Weidenhammer.
