ANNVILLE, Pa. - Alvernia shut down Lebanon Valley's offense in the second half to win 57-44 in a defensive struggle on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (7-10, 4-6 CC) were held to just four points in the final 11:55 of the game after Alvernia's Terrance Bridgers hit a four-point play to take the lead away.

Danny Brooks led LVC with 13 points; Matt O'Brien had nine with six rebounds, and Joey Giangiobbe scored six with 11 boards. Bridgers paced Alvernia with 19 points, including 4-for-6 three-point shooting.

Alvernia controlled the early going before 9-0 LVC run - including three buckets by Brooks - tied the game 24-24 with 3:44 left. Alvernia ended the half with two buckets by Bridgers and Brian Parker to lead 31-26, then opened the second with back-to-back three-pointers by Bridgers and Kahlil Bennett to drive the lead to nine.

LVC fought back again, and took its first lead of the game at 40-39 after a Sammy Diaz trey and Brooks' layup capped a 12-2 run at the 12:21 mark. However, that would be LVC's last points for five minutes as Alvernia made three straight buckets, starting with Bridgers' four-point play, part of an 18-2 run in the final 12 minutes that only ended with Mike Fasano's late jumper.

The Dutchmen will visit Widener Wednesday night.

Saturday was the 29th annual Hot Dog Frank Day, and the annual service award was given to Dr. Phil Billings, professor of English at LVC and long-time NCAA faculty-athletic representative for the department. The award, named in honor of the late Frank "Hot Dog" Aftosmes, is given annually for lifetime contributions and committment to LVC Athletics in the spirit of Aftosmes, who was an Annville businessman and supporter of the Dutchmen.
