Box Score READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley won its third straight volleyball match Wednesday night at Alvernia, giving the Dutchmen their first conference win of the season. The team improved set by set, and ultimately won the last set by a dominating 17 points.
The Dutchmen (3-2, 1-0 Commonwealth) shutout the Crusaders (1-4, 0-1) by scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-8, to extend their win streak.
Kayla Confer led all attackers with nine total kills, while both
Kellsie Groff and
Sarah Godfrey finished the night with eight.
Kacey Musselman distributed for 29 assists.
Groff closed out a tight first set with the team's final two kills. Five of her eight kills came in the first set. Similarly, Godfrey found five of her eight kills in the second set, demonstrating a balance on the team's front row. Confer was consistent, notching three kills in each of the three sets.
The team's win in the third set marks the largest set win of this young season. No player scored more than three kills, but LVC got help on the serve with five service aces – three by
Ally Stengel, one by Groff, and one by
Emily Sides.
The team played balanced defense, with
Allie Garrett's nine digs setting the high. Sides finished with eight, and Groff and Musselman both finished with six.
Alli Quirk registered the Dutchmen's only block solo in the second set, but four women recorded block assists.
The Dutchmen play at the Dickinson Invitational this weekend, opening against Dickinson Friday at 4 p.m.
