ANNVILLE, Pa. - Jason Barthold (3-0) got all of the run support he needed in a seven-run second inning, but that didn't stop his team from piling it on throughout a 13-10 win over #20 Neumann.
Aaron Mills led off the second inning with a double to right. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score when
Jordan Witmer reached on a dropped fly ball to center.
Mike Specht prolonged the rally with a one-out double to score Witmer from second.
Andrew Germann drew a two-out walk and scored along with Specht on a two-run double to right by
Derek Brousseau.
Ryan Schwartz drove Brousseau home on a single to right. The hit extended his current hitting streak to 11 games.
Colt Zarilla was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Mills who tripled in two runs in his second at bat of the inning to give LVC (11-9) a 7-0 lead.
Barthold allowed a run in the top of the third but it was quickly negated by a leadoff, solo homerun by
Jacob Rhody in the bottom half of the inning. The homer was Rhody's first of the season.
The Dutchmen got a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Their final two scores came in the eighth, when Mills singled in a run and scored on a triple by Rhody.
In total, the Dutchmen racked up 13 hits. Mills finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Barthold pitched five innings, allowing six hits and five walks for three runs - one earned. He struck out two.
Lee Webber,
Brent McDowell, and
Zack Rex pitched in relief.
JJ Sims picked up the loss for the Knights (16-5). He allowed nine runs - seven earned - in 3.2 innings of work.
