Widener 64, Lebanon Valley 54
ANNVILLE, Pa. - A tough shooting night and an up-tempo Widener attack handed Lebanon Valley a 64-54 loss Wednesday night in Commonwealth Conference play.
The Dutchmen (10-8, 3-4 CC) fell into a tie with the Pride (12-6, 3-4 CC) for fourth place in the league as they shot just 36.5% from the floor and 4-for-20 (20%) from beyond the arc.
Danny Brooks hit his averages of 20 points and nine rebounds, while
Jordan Stewart had 10 and 9 with four assists.
Joe Meehan added 11 points.
Perry Wright had a game-high 22 to lead Widener, and Jack Brennan added 10 boards as Widener outrebounded LVC 42-31.
The Dutchmen, who had been averaging nearly 26 free throw attempts per game, went to the line just six times in the game as Widener pushed the pace up-tempo and kept LVC from establishing its offense. After spotting LVC an early lead, the Pride ended the first half by outscoring the home side 22-9, extending their lead to 38-26.
Widener's advantage ballooned to as much as 18 in the second half, but LVC brought it back to single digits with a 13-4 run late in the period, capped by three-pointers from Meehan and Agnew around
David Corbin's layup. The Pride ended the momentum shift quickly, however, as Brian Smith converted a three-point play and then ended a 3:31 scoring drought with a layup to ice the game up 62-48 with 1:36 left.
LVC will start the second half of CC play Saturday, hosting Lycoming at 4 p.m.
